Happy Halloween to Murray City!

Tonight I went to Murray City's Annual Haunted Hollow. I gave tours through the woods, helped little superheroes fight battles, and crowned a few princesses!

I remember being absolutely terrified of the hollow as a kid, so I was glad to be the "smile-bringer" to all the teary-eyed little ones at the end of the trail (the donuts and hot chocolate didn't hurt either!). A neat thing they do for the really young kids is give them big bouncy balls to throw at ghosts and ghouls along the trail, it turns the experience from scary to silly!

Beware of Ghosts!

Heroes come in all sizes

Entrance to the Haunted Hollow.....OoOoOoOooh!

American Made, American Strong!
(Shout out to #24)

I told them to yell, "Ghouls Be Gone!" at the monsters in the hollow if they got too scared. I know I'm a big scaredy-cat when it comes to haunted ANYTHING. These kiddos were brave!

Michael Scott Photography

My dear friend Michael Sandberg agreed to do my Miss Murray head shots, I am so lucky to have such talented friends. We went downtown to several different locations and with the help of his beautiful assistant Annie Crutchfield, along with some beautiful day light we were able to capture a few great moments!

And there are more to come!

Thank You Michael Scott Photography! If you're interested in quality pictures of any kind at affordable rates, visit his site here:

Why Miss Murray?

To kick off my blog posts I would like to first explain how the Miss Murray/Miss America Organization has influenced my life, and why I find pageants to be an important aspect of our society today.

Christina Aguilera said it best,  "Being young and a female It’s hard to get by. If you aren’t loud, proud and making statements, you will get bulldozed right over”.  The Miss America Organization (all local pageants, including Miss Murray are under the MAO) assists young women to do exactly that.

The 5 areas of competition encompass important parts of being a well-rounded person:

1. Interview - Academic aspirations, political knowledge, personality and eloquence
2. Swimwear - Healthy lifestyle (each contestant wears a suit of her choosing)
3. Talent - Dedication, practice, and confidence
4. Onstage Question - The ability to think on your feet and be "grace under pressure"
5. Evening Wear - Poise, Elegance and confidence

In addition to these areas of competition, each contestant must develop a platform based on a need in the community and come up with their own unique plan to implement their service.

My platform is called "For Every Body: Bringing a Better Level of Fitness to all Demographics in Murray".

I am a certified yoga instructor, I have taught motor skill development to toddlers, gymnastics and dance to preschoolers and elementary aged kids, and I have volunteered as a recreational therapist in several substance abuse centers in the Salt Lake Valley. I plan to utilize my experience and expertise in teaching and fitness to cater classes to all ages and abilities in Murray.

The truth behind the crown is....drum roll please....hard work.

Yep. That's all.

Titleholders spend only their "free" time worrying about make-up and hair. The reality of the program is that we are prominent female figures in training. We work hard to practice public speaking, to stay educated on all the important issues and to perform the community service that is near and dear to our hearts.

Some might say that pageants are "outdated" and "superficial", but I hope to convey a different image, one of a modern woman who is inspired by her community to work hard, to learn and grow, and to carry a legacy of health and wellness.

I would like to give a BIG Thank You to all my family, friends, teachers and city leaders for your continuous love and support.

My heart to yours -

Mallory Rogers
